There are many beautiful names that mean “Light!” Luke, Lucian, Lucianus, Lucius, Lior, Chiara, Chiaro, etc, etc…. And then there is Lucifer the Light Bearer! The name Lucifer is mentioned in different parts of the bible, a name synonymous with all evil, fallen angels, and the anti-christ. The name Lucifer is called: “The Devil” “The Beast” “Satan” “The Father Of Lies” “The Great Dragon” and “The Enemy” to name a few. According to theologians of Christianity, Lucifer was once an angel in charge of the ministry of music, he made the most beautiful music in Heaven. And then as most of us know, Lucifer was cast down from Heaven into the pit of Hell, but there is no Hell or “devil” in Vodou! In Haitian Vodou there is a feared and powerful djab named, Le Roi Lecife (The King Lucifer.) Lecife Is served and petitioned by magical workers who cast both black and white magic, ( magicians working with both hands.) But he is served mostly among people who practice the left hand path where dark and destructive magic is cast exclusively. In my Painting Lecife comes bearing light and colors but he is in the pitch black shadows, a dark and fallen lwa. Lecife may be found on the walls of your local Bokor’s house or with secret societies that serve him in special ceremonies… Bokor Marco’s fascinating article about King Lucifer of the Haitian Vodou pantheon: http://de-de.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=366014110099738

That is a really amazing painting! So beautiful.
Hi Cheshire thanx!! I had been working on smaller canvas for a while and I really like to do life-size pictures the most. So I spent longer time working on King Lucifer and just enjoying the space of the painting!

Hi BokorMarco!!! Thanks for visiting again!!!Danke!!
Greetings from Jamaica! This is just fascinating. Your painting is beautiful. I am going to share this with Jamaican friends who are interested in this topic… Look forward to your next post!
Hello thank you!!!
I like the painting! the colours are amazingly chosen and the motif is excellent!!! 🙂
in addition I’d like to put in here some small correction. 😉 in effect “lucifer” in the bible is never connected with the devil. to call satan lucifer is some late phenomenon. there even is a 4th century bishop and saint called Lucifer, Lucifer of Cagliari (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucifer_of_Cagliari)! 😀
Hi thank you! That’s true of the name Lucifer. I know the name Lucifer has been debated and interpreted differently by biblical scholars, theologians, but people still connect the name Lucifer with “The Devil” and evil. Its a stigma attached to the name I suppose! But because he fell from heaven and turned against God the name Lucifer is seen as evil, Satan and Anti-Christ by many.
yes, you’re right about the connection. what interested me in all this some time ago were the ways theology went along with so few informations and how these are still present in everyday views. 😉
The bible is always interpreted differently by everyone so trying to explain it away can get crazy and confusing. All I know is the lwa are real and they have always been there for me and others.
“In Christian tradition this meaning of Lucifer has prevailed; the Fathers maintain that Lucifer is not the proper name of the devil, but denotes only the state from which he has fallen (Petavius, De Angelis, III, iii, 4).”
http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/09410a.htm
And for Luciferians: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luciferianism
“Luciferianism is a belief system that venerates the essential characteristics that are affixed to Lucifer. The tradition, influenced by Gnosticism, usually reveres Lucifer not as the Devil, but as a liberator or guiding spirit or even the true god as opposed to Jehovah.”

Reblogged this on Awaken In Light and commented:
During my interfaith work, I’ve come across several practitioners from other faiths who have pointed out parallels and similarities between entities of their own belief system and my own perception of Lu. This is perhaps one of the more striking comparisons that I have been alerted of, and one I’m intrigued to learn more about. If anyone has information to share, I’d love to hear it!
