I once met a man and his name meant, “Light.” He was a striking tall glass of water with Auburn hair and gentle hands. I did not plan on meeting this person, I just bumped into him one night while I was out alone on my way home. When I was around him I felt so HAPPY. It was a strange, wonderful feeling that made me nervous and made me go crazy. I could not speak right around him and I couldn’t stop feeling so giddy and anxious. Just to be in the same room with this man I felt like I was on 15 levels. No drug or alcohol could reproduce the feeling I felt for him, I fell deeply in love. I did not know how to handle what was happening to me and what I was feeling because I NEVER felt like this before. It was not sex that turned me on to him, it was this strange and wonderful vibe that came from him. It made me so high I thought I would lose my mind completely! I now believe In auras because of this beautiful creature and the way he made me feel. But when he did touch me, It made everything I already felt so much more magnified. I knew If I told anybody how I was feeling they would just say I am crazy or that I am making it up. So I used my artwork as a way to communicate my frustration and my feelings while trying to forget about him. But I could not forget about him, I would see him in my dreams and my body would hurt, missing him and his touch. He was so sweet and kind and such a real gentleman, perfect, to me. He is gone now, I am too much of a strange stranger for him. And just my luck, I was born in the wrong body too. I could never be the beautiful asian woman that he really desires.
While he would have a little fun with me, I would never be the woman he calls his wife or partner. It has been a long time, and STILL I want him and need him, and he is stuck in my head and my heart. I mourn for that natural surprise feeling of bliss and passion that I felt with him. I ask god and the spirits everyday to heal me and help me to stay strong through my hurt heart. I learned from my crazy and strange experience with my emotions that true love cannot be forced or created even with love magic. Any man can put himself inside you and tell you lies, touch you and then leave you, but LOVE and the real thing, is RARE. And true love, the experience, the feeling, that no drug or drink can even bring you to, is rarer than the rarest Ruby!

“Ogoun, Ogoun, Ogoun Red Eyes!”

Haitian Vodou spirit Ogoun Red Eyes. Oil colour on canvas sheet. Copyright c.2013

Haitian Vodou spirit Ogoun Red Eyes. Oil colour on canvas sheet. Copyright c.2013

Ogoun Red Eyes is a healer, powerful magick worker and always ready for battle! Ogoun,  a lwa of the Nago Nation in many of his aspects is a soldier, a warrior, a big and brave man that will fight to the death for what he believes in! He is fierce and protective of all his children and those who serve him. He carries the mighty machete, which is his weapon of choice, a no nonsense knife that speaks volumes for itself!!! He is served with Red and Blue, and in possession he is known to greet those around him with a firm handshake.

Here is a lovely song for Ogou created by Houngan Kristian Moe and Monsieur Gerard a member of his house, taken from Houngan Kristian’s website VodouSongs.com:

In Haitian  Kreyol:                                                                                                                                                                                               “Ou gen machete, Ogun o Ou gen machete, Papa Ogou O Ou pa bezwen kle pou ouvre barye a Ou pa bezwen kle pou ouvre port la Avec force ou, Ogou O Avec force ou e, Papa Ogou O Ou pa bezwen kle pou ouvre barye a Ou pa bezwen kle pou ouvre port la Avec force ou, Ogou O Avec force ou e, se petit mwen ye Papa Ogou O, ouvre barye a papa Ogou O, ouvre port yo!”

In English:

“You have the machete, Ogou O You have the machete, Papa Ogou O You don’t need the key to open the gate You don’t need the key to open the door It’s your power, Ogou O It’s your power e, Papa Ogou O You don’t need the key to open the gate You don’t need the key to open the door It’s your power, Ogou O It’s your power e, I am your child Papa Ogou O, open the gate Papa Ogou O, open the doors!”

“A Gentleman With Some Eyeteeth”

Bram Stoker’s creation, the Count Dracula, a bloodthirsty Vampire. Watercolours on mixed media paper.             Virtual matboard in Indigo. Copyright c. 2012

Today is Mr. Bram Stoker’s 165th Birthday! For all who care to know and who love his work. When I first read His book “Dracula” I was thrown into a world of monsters and nightmares and romance that took my imagination for a good ride! Vampires are  fascinating creatures to fantasize and romanticize, to see and dream of in movies and novels. But there is nothing sexy or appealing about a demon that comes in the night to tear the arteries from your body and bleed you out!! Blood loss is scary it makes you feel dizzy and it hurts too! Ouchy! (In my opinion, if that’s what you are into that’s OK I don’t judge people!) But Bram Stoker and my other favorite Mrs. Anne Rice of New Orleans found a way to take a being of darkness and death and make them sexy, fun and likeable! Dracula is a character that inspired me and many other millions of horror and gothic fans to reach for something deep and meaningful in our nightmares and our darkness in life. Tame the beast and monster that is hiding inside of all of us.                     Happy Birthday Mr. Bram Stoker!!!!!!!!

“Don’t Dig The Grave.”

Haitian Vodou spirit of the dead, Baron La Croix, ( Baron Of The Cross) at his altar.       Bob Ross Liquid clear and Oil colour on canvas sheet. Copyright c. 2012

When a loved one is on the brink of death from any ailment, illness or natural causes, they say if you plead with the Baron, ask him don’t dig that grave, he may or may not bring them back from the point of no return! Baron is the judge and jury he decides who may be healed and who has to go home to God, Bondye. Baron Is the Chief of the Gede vodou spirits, although he is very serious and does not joke around like the Gede spirits do! Like other Vodou spirits there any many aspects to Baron, for example, there is Baron Samedi, Baron Kriminel, Baron Cimitiere and La Croix, etc…. They say he wears his sunglasses with one lens missing to watch over the world of the living and the dead at the same time! Working with Baron myself I’ve learned about resurrection, vengeance, death, healing, and taking the most grim circumstances in my life and trying to find humor and light where I may. The Ghede spirits have the world’s best sense of humor, they know how to laugh and clown and tell dirty jokes. They are wild and sexy, dancing the famous Banda and talking racy, racy ADULT talk! Baron is known for his great work with children, he is very protective of them and he is very attentive with healing sick children especially. They can assist families or young women seeking to have children, they are givers of life although they are the dead! Fet Gede is their special holiday where the living and the dead come together to celebrate and honor their lwa and their ancestors. Baron can be found in the cemetery watching over his people and waiting to guide new souls into the world of the spirits.
