“Gede’s Glasses”

My sketch of Papa Gede and the vision in his glasses. Graphite pencil on paper Copyright c. 2011

Baron is known for his signature Top hat, his sunglasses and his suit. Some say he pops out one of the lenses of his shades to see into our world and the next at the same time. Others say its to watch over his offerings so that no one will steal his food! I have sketched him smoking a cigarette and standing at the gates of St. Louis Cemetery in New Orleans. In New Orleans Vodou and Haitian Vodou,  he is a major lwa. Some visit the cemetery to visit loved ones, others go to leave offerings for Baron and Mama Brigitte. Whether its New Orleans Vodou or Haitian Vodou we all seek what Papa Gede possesses, connection with the spirit world! The dead, the ancestors, and the afterlife.

About ErzulieRedEyesArtandSpirit

I love art, I enjoy oil painting and drawing anything I wish. Vodou is my faith and I enjoy creating artistic images of the lwa and spiritual subjects. I also paint and draw other subjects when I'm inspired! When i'm not painting and drawing I enjoy dancing, and spending time with my family. My favorite medium is Oil but I also love to work with graphite pencil, pastels, pen and ink.
