“House by the water”

Original oil on canvas portrait of hoodoo women in virtual frame. Copyright c. 2011

My portrait of a magically inclined family of women who lived by the waterside in Louisiana long ago. The youngest child holds up Simbi’s cross, another young girl holds Papa Legba’s keys, the keys to the spirit world. Their home is a Creole townhouse situated upon an open field near a graveyard, where their ancestors reside.

About ErzulieRedEyesArtandSpirit

I love art, I enjoy oil painting and drawing anything I wish. Vodou is my faith and I enjoy creating artistic images of the lwa and spiritual subjects. I also paint and draw other subjects when I'm inspired! When i'm not painting and drawing I enjoy dancing, and spending time with my family. My favorite medium is Oil but I also love to work with graphite pencil, pastels, pen and ink.

  1. “Hoodoo” is not Vodou, it is african american magic, different from actual Vodou.
I donot practice Hoodoo myself but I enjoy reading about the occult and folklore of all cultures.
Catherine Yronwode, owner of the Lucky Mojo Curio Co., is an expert and practicioner of Hoodoo:
